What is depression?

Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life. Especially when recurrent and with moderate or severe intensity, depression may become a serious health condition. It can cause the affected person to suffer greatly and function poorly at work, at school, and in the family.

Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home.

They help the individual focus on the cause of their depression, rather than the temporary solution of taking up drinking or drugs. They also allow the individual to realise that it may be their thoughts that are bringing them down, and that they have the power to change these things. The individual is then better able to tackle anything subconsciously, and so minimise the chances of depression reoccurring.

If a person is suffering from depression, they should consider seeing their doctor or a specialistDrsa mental health professionalas soon as possible.
