What is depression?

Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life. Especially when recurrent and with moderate or severe intensity, depression may become a serious health condition. It can cause the affected person to suffer greatly and function poorly at work, at school, and in the family. 

Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home.

Similarly, financial problems may also arise between a couple, resulting in either falling into debt, or having little financial resources to spend on each other. Similarly, home life becomes difficult when one of the partners becomes unable to care for their subsequent needs.

The most important thing to do for someone suffering from depression, or even just depression in general, is to ensure they have easy access to the help they need to recover from their condition.
