Cystitis is primarily a women’s disease, but it can also affect men. Twenty percent of all women will suffer from an episode of cystitis at some time during their lifetimes.

Cystitis also known as bladder infection is the inflammation of the urinary tract, most often caused by infection. The most common culpris id E. coli, the intestinal bacteria that is vital to maintaining intestinal health, but devastating when the bacteria enters the urethra and makes its way to the bladder.

The reason women are twenty five times more vulnerable to bladder infections that are men is due to simple anatomical differences. Because the female bladder is much shorter than the male urethra, E. coli have an easy time reaching the female bladder.

When you don’t drink enough fluids to wash them away, the microorganisms adhere to the bladder walls and begin multiplying. The result? An intense urge to urinate, burning during urination and, in some cases, blood in the urine, which can be very frightening.

All opathic medicine uses antibiotics as the first line of defence, specially the drugs Bactrim, Septra, or Cipro. Antibiotics will help prevent a simple bladder infection from turning into a life threatening kidney infection, and are often necessary once the infection takes hold.

The problem with antibiotics, however, is that they are not selective and kill as many good bacteria as bad bacteria. This, in turn, alters the body’s normal balance of microorganisms and because the microorganisms are altered, the conditions are also optimal for vaginal yeast infections.

To make matters worse, for many women cystitis is a chronic condition, so they must take antibiotics frequently. To add to their misery, these women run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant infections, as well as yeast infections.

If you have a tendency to contract cystitis, a combination of common sense and supplements may help to prevent a recurrence.

Most of the traditional and current treatments for urinary incontinence have significant limitations and often do little to actually cure the urinary incontinence .

Many of these alternatives do nothing to eliminate the original causes, but merely serve as a way to minimize he embarrassing effects of urinary incontinence.

Here are some cures against urinary incontinence:

- Absorbent Products
The vast majority of people who suffer from urinary incontinence do so in silence, never seek treatment or medical advice for their problems , and take immediately to wearing pads or diapers to hide their conditions. These products are simply designed to catch the urine upon leakage and do absolutely nothing to help remove the root causes of incontinence. People who experience incontinence turn to absorbent products prematurely would be forced to continue purchasing them forever.

- Exercises
Pelvic floor muscle exercises, also called Kegel exercises, have been proven to be effective in improving and even curing some cases of urinary incontinence. These exercises aim to improve urethral resistance through directly exercising the pubococcygeus muscle. In pelvic floor muscle exercises, the person contracts the targeted muscles for up to 10 seconds, followed by an equal period of relaxation. Individuals are assisted by a clinician of simply given written instructions to follow.

- Surgery
A variety of surgical procedures are utilized mainly to treat stress incontinence, rather than urge or mixed incontinence. Surgery usually involves elevating and stabilizing the urethra and the bladder neck in order to prevent further incidents of incontinence.

- External Catheters
Incontinent man can use what are called condom catheters to cope with urinary incontinence. These catheters go on the outside of the penis and terminate in tube and collection bag combinations. Women can also use external collection bags but have more problems keeping these items in place over the urethra.

- Indwelling Catheters
An indwelling catheter, or Foley catheter, is a closed, sterile system inserted into the bladder through the urethra in order to allow for the drainage of the bladder directly through a tube into a urine collection bag.

- Implantable Devices
Implantation of foreign materials into the body, such as artificial sphincters, are another method of treating urinary incontinence. Inject able materials, such as collages, polytetrafluoroethylene, and other substances, can be inserted into the tissue surrounding the urethral sphincter using small gauge hypodermic needles under anesthesia.

- Drugs
Drugs typically used for the treatment of urinary incontinence act on the nerve receptors associated with the bladder neurotransmitter system and generally alleviate the symptoms in part but are seldom curative. Drugs also may cause adverse side effects, often affecting cardiovascular and circulatory system.

- Electrical Stimulation
Electrical stimulation is a treatment for urinary incontinence that involves the stimulation of the pelvic area by electrical current.

If you eliminate the bacteria, you have gonna a long way in curing ulcer disease, so it is worth a shot. Many patients take antibiotics to cure ulcers.

The prime suspect: Helicobacter pylori, bacteria that set up shop in your stomach and either create or take advantage of weaknesses in your stomach’s lining to produce those painful sores.

In most cases, shutting down the the pain created by this gut level bad guy is as easy as taking the right doctor recommended antibiotics. But they have come up with several other methods for curing ulcer pain as well.

Cabbage
Cabbage is number one home remedy recommended. Roman doctors used cabbage to treat ulcers, as well as such diverse conditions as headache, colic and insomnia. Today research show that drinking a liter of fresh cabbage juice helps to cure ulcers. The key success in cabbage is called glutamine. Glutamine proved to be the more effective treatment against ulcers.

Avoid fried foors and spices
While spicy, fatty or acidic foods don’t cause ulcers, they have been found to make an already angry ulcer feel worse. You don’t have to stick to blank food, but stay away from foods that turn on the burn.

Avoid milk
Many people who have ulcers seem to suffer after drinking milk. Milk protein in the stomach stimulates acid. So drinking milk is not a good for ulcer treatment.

Ginger
Ginger, proven, effective in preventing nausea and motion sickness, has a calming effect on the stomach. Doctors who favor natural healing therapies sometimes recommend deglycyrrhized licorice for people with ulcers to help protect the stomach’s lining.

Chamomile tea
In fact chamomile tea is taken throughout Europe to help aid digestion and fight infection. Tea made from German chamomile tea is available in many health food stores. Chamomile tea is a member of the daisy family and can trigger an allergic reaction in people sensitive to ragweed, aster or chrysanthemums.

Stress management
Keeping stress to a minimum could play a substantial role in avoiding ulcers say some doctors. There is some scientific evidence that people under a lot of stress will secrete more stomach acid.

Cystitis sufferers need to ensure an adequate liquid intake at all times, as well as drinking large volumes during an attack. Our minimal requirement is 1.5 litre( about 3 pints) per 24 hours, which is sufficient to replace fluids lost in urine, motions, perspiration and breath moisture under normal conditions.

In addition to this, you should drink drink at least a further 05-1 litres to keep your urine as dilute as possible and therefore reduce the likelihood of the urine irritating your bladder and urethral linings.

It is easy to forget the need to drink large amounts when you are not actually suffering from an attack of cystitis, especially if you are constantly busy working etc. A helpful tip is to carry liquid with you when access to drinks is limited, or when a drinks machine dispenses only strong coffee, tea, soup etc.

A plastic half litre bottle should not prove too burdensome if it helps reduce the frequency of your cystitis attacks. Remember you need extra still in hot weather and after vigorous exercise.

Healthy drinks for you to try include still or sparkling mineral water with a little juice and honey, cranberry juice, freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices, herbal and fruit tea such as chamomile to aid relaxation or rose hip for extra vitamin C.

Here are some suggested fruit and vegetable juices to combat different health problem:

For kidney and bladder disorders.
1/2 tablespoon parsley juicee
1 tablespoon dandelion leaf juice
3 tablespoon spinach juice
6 tablespoon carrot juice
To be taken twice daily beetwen meals.

In the case of the bladder, the inflamed, tender lining is in constant contact with urine, which is usually acidic, and sometimes highly so.

The urethral lining is usually the first to become inflamed, and as it is continuous with the lining of the bladder, inflammation sometimes spreads throughout both of these organs.

Quite often, however, the bladder lining remains unaffected and what is called cystitis is in fact inflammation confined to the lining of the urethra.

When the inflammation is confined below’ and does not involve ureters or kidneys, then the symptoms of ‘urethritis’ and of cystitis proper are often indistinguishable from one another and recognizable immediately by all who have ever suffered an attack of either. They include:

- a painful, burning sensation on passing urine;
- urgency, which is the great and immediate need to get to the toilet to pass urine- often only a drop or two at a time;
- pains in the lower abdomen and lower back;
- nausea and occasionally vomiting;
- dark, sometimes bad-smelling urine that may have a pinkish colour or contain bright red blood;
- getting up at night to pass urine;
- a very painful burning feeling in the urethra which can extend as far as the vaginal lips.

Many people regard cystitis-wrongly- as an infection of the bladder. But bacterial infection is only one of a number of possible causes. Cystitis is in fact a symptom, a message from the body that all is not as it should be, and an indication that an underlying irritant-maybe a bacteria- should be sought.
