Menopause, the end of menstruation, is caused by a decline in the production of two hormones, estrogen and progesterone, by the ovaries. In the United States, most women  become menopausal, or experience their last menstrual cycle, at around age fifty one.

Although researchers generally agree that hormone replacement therapy is safe when estrogen and progesterone are taken together there are many women who may be good candidates for HTR but still prefer to use natural solutions to cure menopause problems. You  can cure menopause discomfort with vitamins supplements.

Vitamin E –  Vitamin E has been used for more than fifty years as a remedy for hot flashes.  A potent antioxidant, vitamin E can also help to protect postmenopausal women against disease, the number one killer of women.

Vitamin C –  Vitamin C can help strengthen capillaries and lessen the effect of vasomotor disturbances that can cause those annoying hot flashes.

B complex –  A multivitamin and mineral formula that contains all the major B vitamins is important to help control stress.

Calcium –  Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body. Roughly 99 percent of the body’s calcium is found in the teeth and bones. Calcium is instrumental in muscle contraction, blood clotting, and maintenance of cell membranes, and plays a critical role in the normal functioning of the heart. This is important because heart disease in women increases after menopause.

One of the most devastating effect of menopause is bone loss, which leads of fractures, spine curvature, and tooth loss. Calcium supplements are advised for menopausal women, although it is beneficial to begin sufficient calcium intake at an early age.

Good food source of calcium include low fat milk and yogurt, fortified juice and cereals, salmon and sardines with bones, and molasses.

Vitamin D –   Increases calcium absorption in the body, and magnesium appears  to regulate the flow of calcium between cells.

Avoid cola drinks that contain phosphate. This mineral saps calcium from the body. Caffeine and alcohol can also decrease calcium absorption.

Magnesium –  This mineral is essential for strong bones and is also heart healthy. In one important study of women with mild high blood pressure sponsored by the Netherlands Heart Foundation, magnesium supplements reduced blood pressure in women not taking other medication.

In addition, magnesium can help to prevent insulin resistance, that is, the inability to use insulin efficiently to turn glucose into energy. As a result of insulin resistance, glucose levels rise, which can lead to diabetes and heart disease.
